This book follows the story of a young girl, Mia, as she navigates life with a condition that causes her senses to mix, synesthesia. While she struggles to keep up with school, due to her condition, she also grieves the loss of her grandfather. Mango, the cat she found at the funeral of her grandfather, is the only thing that brings Mia comfort in her life. She believes the cat contains the spirit of her grandfather and treats it as such. Mango helps Mia deal with the loss of her grandfather and eventually contributes greatly to her being able to let it go and carry on with her life. Towards the end of the book Mia is able to manage her condition and the difficulty of life through the help of others. This book has themes of loss, family, and identity. It is emotional, but motivating, and teaches great lessons about life.
