The Moon
The moon is an object everyone is familiar with, but what exactly is it? The moon is a satellite, an object that orbits a larger object, in this case the earth. While it only takes the moon around 27.3 days to complete a revolution around the earth, it takes 29.5 days for the moon to complete a full set of moon phases. The moons phases are as follows:
- New Moon
- Waxing Crescent
- First Quarter
- Waxing Gibbous
- Full Moon
- Waning Gibbous
- Third Quarter
- Waning Crescent
- The oceans tides are caused by the moon.
- The moon is around 4.6 billion years old.
- Humans weigh 1/6th of their weight on earth, on the moon.
- Alan Shepard, an astronaut, played golf on the moon in 1971.
- As the universe expands, the moon grows further in distance from earth.
